Molecular Revolts in Europe

The molecular revolts in Europe have common starting points, and they also produce similar forms of action and organization. Common starting points are the collapse of infrastructure, literally like the train disaster in Tempi, Greece, on February 28, 2023, and the collapse of the station canopy in Novi Sad, Serbia, on November 1, 2024, but also the corruption that caused these tragic incidents and threatens to cover up the responsibilities afterwards. Equally common, however, are less eventful starting points, such as the erosion of healthcare infrastructures or those for housing by real estate business and global tourism industries.

The response of current social movements is not at the molar level of the state, parties and oppositions, but at the molecular level. For more than four months now, Serbian students have been gathering for blockades, vigils and massive demonstrations, and they have been declaring President Vučić and his regime to be neither relevant nor competent for their demands. They are against representation, against the nexus of machinic capitalism and liberal-representative democracy, but even more fundamentally against the principle of representation in general. At the same time, the movements do not see themselves as anti-state, but rather as acting past the state, alongside the state, under the state, in some cases even affirming it when they demand that its institutions do their job.

It is precisely in the ruins of statehood, infrastructure and ecology that new socialities are emerging that counter techno-fascist and political corruption with a micro-political, socio-aesthetic and molecular approach. The current issue of transversal brings together analyses, theoretical updates and accompanying texts on the concrete protests in Serbia, Greece, Turkey and Spain.

Molekularne pobune u Evropi imaju zajednička polazišta, a proizvode i slične oblike delovanja i organizacije. Uobičajene polazne tačke su urušavanje infrastrukture, bukvalno poput železničke katastrofe u Tempiju, u Grčkoj, 28. februara 2023. godine i urušavanja nadstrešnice Železničke stanice u Novom Sadu, u Srbiji, 1. novembra 2024. godine, ali i korupcija koja je izazvala ove tragične incidente i koja potom preti da prikrije odgovornost za njih. Ali postoje i manje zajednička polazišta, na primer, kada je u pitanju erozija infrastrukture za zdravstvenu zaštitu ili stanovanja manipulacijom nekretninama i globalnom turističkom industrijom.

Odgovor aktuelnih društvenih pokreta nije na molarnom nivou države, partija i opozicije, već na molekularnom nivou. Srpski studenti se više od četiri meseca okupljaju na blokadama, bdenjima i masovnim demonstracijama, a predsednika Vučića i njegov režim proglasili su nerelevantnim i nenadležnim za njihove zahteve. Oni se protive predstavljanju, protiv su veze mašinskog kapitalizma i liberalno-predstavničke demokratije, ali još fundamentalnije protiv principa reprezentacije uopšte. Istovremeno, pokret sebe ne vidi kao antidržavni, već deluje mimo države, uz državu, pod državom, a u nekim slučajevima je čak i afirmišu kada zahtevaju da njene institucije rade svoj posao.

Upravo na ruševinama državnosti, infrastrukture i ekologije nastaju nove društvenosti koja se mikropolitičkim, socio-estetskim i molekularnim pristupom suprotstavljaju tehnofašističkoj i političkoj korupciji. Aktuelno izdanje transversal-a objedinjuje analize, proširene teorije i propratne tekstove o konkretnim protestima u Srbiji, Grčkoj, Turskoj i Španiji.

Die molekularen Revolten in Europa haben gemeinsame Ausgangspunkte, und sie bringen auch ähnliche Aktions- und Organisationsformen hervor. Gemeinsame Ausgangspunkte sind das Zusammenbrechen der Infrastruktur, buchstäblich wie am 28. Februar 2023 die Zugkatastrophe im griechischen Tempi und am 1. November 2024 der Einsturz des Bahnhofvordachs im serbischen Novi Sad, aber auch die Korruption, die diese tragischen Vorfälle verursachte und die die Verantwortlichkeiten danach zu vertuschen droht. Ebenso gemeinsam sind aber auch weniger ereignishafte Ausgangspunkte, wenn es etwa um die Aushöhlung der Infrastrukturen für Gesundheitsvorsorge oder für das Wohnen durch Immobiliengeschäft und die globale Tourismusindustrie geht.

Die Antwort aktueller sozialer Bewegungen erfolgt nicht auf molarer Ebene des Staats, der Parteien und Oppositionen, sondern molekular. Über mehr als vier Monate schon versammeln sich etwa die serbischen Studierenden zu Blockaden, Mahnwachen und Großdemonstrationen, und sie erklären Präsident Vučić und sein Regime für weder relevant noch kompetent für ihre Forderungen. Sie stellen sich gegen Repräsentation, gegen den Nexus von maschinischem Kapitalismus und liberal-repräsentativer Demokratie, aber noch fundamentaler gegen das Vertretungsprinzip überhaupt. Zugleich verstehen sich die Bewegungen nicht als antistaatlich, sondern agieren eher am Staat vorbei, neben dem Staat, unter dem Staat, affirmieren ihn in manchen Fällen sogar, wenn sie fordern, dass seine Institutionen ihre Arbeit tun.

Gerade in den Ruinen von Staatlichkeit, Infrastruktur und Ökologie entstehen neue Sozialitäten, die der technofaschistischen und politischen Korruption einen mikropolitischen, sozio-ästhetischen und molekularen Zugang entgegensetzen. Die aktuelle Ausgabe von transversal versammelt Analysen, theoretische Aktualisierungen und Begleittexte zu den konkreten Protesten in Serbien, Griechenland, der Türkei und Spanien.

Las revueltas moleculares en Europa tienen puntos de partida comunes, y también producen formas similares de acción y organización. Los puntos de partida comunes son el colapso de las infraestructuras, literalmente como el desastre ferroviario de Tempi, Grecia, el 28 de febrero de 2023, y el derrumbe de la marquesina de la estación de Novi Sad, Serbia, el 1 de noviembre de 2024, pero también la corrupción que causó estos trágicos incidentes y que amenaza con encubrir las responsabilidades después. Sin embargo, son igualmente comunes puntos de partida menos azarosos, como la erosión de las infraestructuras sanitarias o las de la vivienda por parte del negocio inmobiliario y las industrias turísticas mundiales.

La respuesta de los movimientos sociales actuales no se sitúa en el nivel molar del Estado, los partidos y las oposiciones, sino en el molecular. Desde hace más de cuatro meses, los estudiantes serbios se reúnen en bloqueos, vigilias y manifestaciones masivas, y declaran que el presidente Vučić y su régimen no son relevantes ni competentes para sus reivindicaciones. Están en contra de la representación, en contra del nexo entre el capitalismo maquínico y la democracia liberal-representativa, pero aún más fundamentalmente en contra del principio de representación en general. Al mismo tiempo, los movimientos no se ven a sí mismos como antiestatales, sino más bien como actuando más allá del Estado, junto al Estado, bajo el Estado, en algunos casos incluso afirmándolo cuando exigen que sus instituciones hagan su trabajo.

Es precisamente en las ruinas de la estatalidad, las infraestructuras y la ecología donde están surgiendo nuevas socialidades que contrarrestan la corrupción tecnofascista y política con un enfoque micropolítico, socioestético y molecular. El presente número de transversal reúne análisis, actualizaciones teóricas y textos de acompañamiento sobre las protestas concretas en Serbia, Grecia, Turquía y España.
