This issue of transversal steps directly into the field of a rapidly changing art education and interrogates the concepts it is based on, detecting its ever widening fault lines and marking the signs of its historical transformation. One cannot deny it any longer: There is a crack in academia. That’s how the light gets in – disclosing the neoliberal takeover and illuminating the sites of resistance. But that’s also how the knowledge gets out – escaping from its patriarchal, elitist confinement, abandoning the form of its historical decadence and reinventing itself in the praxis of social life and labour. Thus, it’s time again to listen to the voices from the ground, from the realm of – always already political – contingency where the knowledge is confronted with what it cannot know and can bring us to catastrophe or salvation.

Diese Ausgabe von transversal steigt direkt ein in die Auseinandersetzungen um eine sich rasch verändernde Kunstausbildung, hinterfragt die Konzepte auf welchen sie basiert, deckt ihre sich stets ausweitenden Verwerfungslinien auf und markiert die Zeichen ihrer historischen Veränderung. Man kann es nicht mehr leugnen: Es gibt einen Riss in der Akademie. So kommt das Licht herein, um die neoliberale Übernahme offen zu legen und Orte des Widerstands sichtbar werden zu lassen. Doch so kommt auch das Wissen heraus, um seiner patriarchalen und elitären Gefangenschaft zu entkommen, die Form seiner historischen Dekadenz zu verlassen und sich in der Praxis des gesellschaftlichen Lebens und der Arbeit neu zu erfinden. Daher ist es wieder an der Zeit, die Stimmen von unten, aus dem Bereich einer immer schon politischen Kontingenz zu hören, wo das Wissen mit dem konfrontiert wird, was es nicht wissen kann, und uns in die Katastrophe, aber auch zur Rettung führen kann.

Este número de transversal se adentra en un campo, el de la enseñanza artística, que actualmente experimenta cambios vertiginosos. Tratamos de interrogar los conceptos en los que este campo se basa, para poder detectar cuáles son sus cada vez mayores carencias e identificar los signos de su transformación histórica. Ya no se puede negar: la academia se ha quebrado. Por las grietas abiertas penetra la luz que revela el dominio que sobre ella ejerce el neoliberalismo, iluminando también los lugares donde la resistencia se ejerce. Pero por esas grietas se desborda asimismo el conocimiento: escapa de su confinamiento patriarcal y elitista, abandonando la forma de su decadencia histórica, reinventándose en la praxis del trabajo y de la vida social. Ha llegado por tanto la hora de escuchar las voces que vienen de abajo, del ámbito de la urgencia política, donde el conocimiento se confronta con aquello que todavía no se conoce, para poder conducirnos así, bien a la catástrofe, bien a la salvación.
